Legacy Modernization & Migration

bbv Vietnam modernizes legacy applications and migrates critical systems step by step — reducing technical risk while protecting business continuity and preparing your software for future growth.

Overview

Update old systems without stopping your business.

Old applications often hold years of business logic, and your daily work depends on them. But old technology and years of small fixes make them harder to maintain, connect and change.

At bbv, we update old software step by step, and we keep the parts that still work well. We first look at your applications, architecture and dependencies. Then we set a plan that fits your priorities.

We work with you from the first assessment through migration and into daily operation, one step at a time.

Your benefits

Less complexity. Lower risk. More room to grow.

Protect critical business behavior with characterization tests and controlled migration boundaries.

Reduce coupling so teams can change high-value areas without destabilizing the whole system.

Prepare workloads for modern deployment, observability, security, and cloud operating models.

Less technical debt

Cleaner code and architecture make maintenance and new work easier.

Lower operational risk

We replace old, fragile parts with stable ones. Fewer outages, fewer surprises.

Easier to change

Small, connected parts are easier to update, connect and extend.

Improved performance

Faster applications and infrastructure that can handle more load.

Cloud readiness

Your applications are ready to run in the cloud, with an architecture built for it.

Room for new ideas

A modern base makes it easier to add new features and services.

From assessment to full modernization

Legacy assessment

We look at your systems and risks and set a plan with clear costs.

Application refactoring

We improve the existing code so it is easier to maintain and extend.

Architecture modernization

We move rigid systems to a modular, cloud-ready architecture.

Technology stack modernization

We move old frameworks and libraries to supported, modern ones.

Cloud migration

We move applications and data to the cloud.

Data & database migration

We move your data to a new platform, and check if it is correct and complete.

Legacy system integration

We connect old systems to new ones through APIs, so you can modernize step by step.

Application reengineering

We redesign or rebuild an application when the old one can no longer meet your needs.

Continuous modernization

We keep improving your applications after the first migration.

FAQ

Got questions? We've got answers.

How do you decide what to modernize first?

We score each part of the system on four points: business value, technical risk, maintenance cost, and dependencies. The first step is usually a part with high risk and few dependencies. This gives an early result with low disruption. The assessment takes 2 to 4 weeks, and ends with a ranked plan and a cost estimate.

Do we have to rebuild the whole application?

No. A full rewrite costs the most and carries the most risk, and it is rarely needed. In most projects, we improve the parts that still hold value, add an API layer in front of the system, and replace single parts step by step. We only recommend a rebuild when the technology has no more support, or when the architecture blocks your business.

Can we modernize without stopping the business?

Yes, in most cases. The old and new parts run side by side during the change, and we move users or data in groups. Each step has a rollback plan. Full parallel operation is not always possible. Where it is not, we plan the downtime with you, and we test the switch-over more than once before the real one.

What happens to our data during the migration?

We study the current data, define the target model, and build repeatable transfer jobs. We run the migration as a test more than once, and check record counts, sums and samples against the source. The real migration starts only after you approve the check.

Our system has no documentation, and the original developers are gone. Is this a problem?

This is the usual case. We work out how the system behaves from the code, the database and the log files, and we write down the business rules we find. Where the behavior is unclear, we first build automated tests around the current system. These tests then show every difference after a change.

How do you protect the business logic in the old system?

The business logic is the real value in an old application. We isolate it, cover it with tests, and move it without changing what it does. We keep technical changes and functional changes apart, because mixing both at once makes errors hard to find.

How long does a modernization take, and what does it cost?

The assessment takes 2 to 4 weeks at a fixed price. After that, you get a plan with priced steps. Each step delivers a working result, so you can stop or change direction between steps. A first step usually takes 3 to 6 months.
